The Apple Scanner was a peripheral that was released by Apple Computer on August 12, 1988.[1]
Description
The device was Apple's first flatbed scanner that could scan at up to 8.5 × 14 inches and support the A4 size. It was capable of producing an image with 4-bits-per-pixel, supporting 16 levels of gray at a maximum resolution of 300 dpi.[2] The scanner could complete a low-resolution scan (75 dpi) as fast as 20.4 seconds. It shipped with a SCSI connection with an unused ADB port.[3] To control the scanner, it came with both AppleScan and HyperScan, the latter allowed users to scan directly from within a HyperCard stack.[4] Later, only AppleScan was offered.[3]
On September 27, 1991, the original scanner was succeeded by the short-lived Apple OneScanner with 256 levels of gray (8-bit).[5]
