Copy protection refers to techniques designed to prevent unauthorized copying of software.
Criticism
Such techniques may hinder basic attempts at software theft. However, it is considered silly by legitimate customers who are prevented from using products they have paid for in the way they want.[1] Copy protection can interfere with making backups in case the original disk or media fails. Modern commercial software products typically use online registration or subscriptions to limit use to paying customers.
