The iPad Pro is the flagship line of professional tablet computers from Apple Inc. It was first announced on October 9, 2015 and released on November 11, 2015, superseding the iPad Air 2 as the high end of the iPad line. It has since become its own product line, consisting of a lighter compact model and a larger 12.9-inch model.

Release history
1st generation
The 1st-generation iPad Pro first became available on November 11, 2015, solely in a larger 12.9-inch version with a 64-bit Apple A9X chip. A smaller 9.7-inch version became available on March 31, 2016 and included a camera flash.
2nd generation
The 2nd-generation iPad Pro was released on June 13, 2017 in 10.5 and 12.9-inch versions, powered by the Apple A10X Fusion chip.
3rd generation
The 3rd-generation iPad Pro was released on November 7, 2018 in redesigned 11 and 12.9-inch versions, powered by the Apple A12X Bionic chip.
4th generation
The 4th-generation iPad Pro was announced on March 18, 2020 and became available on the following March 25th in 11 and 12.9-inch versions, powered by the Apple A12Z Bionic chip.[1]
5th generation
The 5th-generation iPad Pro was announced on April 20, 2021 and became available on May 21st in 11 and 12.9-inch versions. These were the first to share a common central processor, the Apple M1, with the Macintosh computer line.[2]
6th generation
The 6th-generation iPad Pro was announced on October 18, 2022 and became available on the following October 26th in both 11 and 12.9-inch sizes. They came with the Apple M2 chip and Apple Pencil Hover support.
7th generation
The 7th-generation iPad Pro, marketed as the iPad Pro (M4) was announced on May 7, 2024 and was released on the following May 15th. It came with the Ultra Retina XDR display that utilized Tandem OLED technology and came with the Apple M4 chip. It was available in 11 and 13-inch display sizes, at 5.3mm and 5.1mm thick respectively, making the 13-inch model "the thinnest Apple product ever". The ultra-wide camera was replaced with a new Adaptive True Tone Flash found on iPhones, and the selfie camera was moved to the landscape bezel side. Both tablets support the new Apple Pencil Pro and Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro. Both versions came with 256 GB as base storage, and were priced at $999 and $1299 respectively.[3]

- The announcement of the iPad Pro took place on the same date the iPad mini 4 was released.
- The high end iPad Pro models feature the largest screens of all iPad models.
- This is the first iPad to have a powered magnetic connection called the Smart Connector for attachable keyboards, such as the Smart Keyboard, and other accessories.
- In the YouTube video "Angry Grandpa destroys iPad Pro", a first generation iPad Pro battery releases smoke when destroyed with a hammer. This has not necessarily been duplicated in other instances where iPads have been destroyed.
