iSync was developed by Apple to allow users to synchronize data across multiple computers, PDAs, cell phones and iPods. Data that could be synchronized included contacts from Address Book, dates from iCal, and bookmarks from Safari.

Usage

Online use of iSync required an .Mac account and its features were integrated into the Sync tab of the .Mac preference pane in Mac OS X 10.4. The preferene pane also had the ability to also sync keychains, Mail accounts and rules, signatures and Smart Mailboxes. iSync was still used in Mac OS X 10.4 to add devices such as Palm devices and cell phones. Beginning with iTunes 4.8, iSync no longer synchronized iPods; these settings had migrated over to iTunes.

The final version, 3.0, was supported by Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard).^[1]
