KidSafe was a web directory service for children that was operated by Apple Computer. A combination of a system extension for classic Mac OS and a web browser plug-in would enable filter-like functionality to limit internet access to websites that were pre-approved by educators.

History

KidSafe was introduced by Steve Jobs as part of iTools on January 5, 2000 during the keynote event at Macworld Expo in San Francisco.[1] However, it was retired in August 2001 due to lack of interest. Apple published instructions on how to remove the software while suggesting alternatives to parents.[2][3]
