Logic Express was a cheaper and easier to use retail version of Logic Pro. This version was intended for "prosumers" moving on from GarageBand but not quite at the professional level yet. Most users stuck to GarageBand unless they got signed or needed more than 8 instruments.

Discontinuation

Logic Express was discontinued on December 9, 2011, when sales of Logic Pro and related music software was moved online to the Mac App Store.
