QuickTime VR Authoring Studio box

QuickTime VR Authoring Studio (QTVRAS) is a set of graphical utilities developed by Apple Computer for the preparation of image files for viewing through QuickTime VR.

Description

A set of basic tools, later called the QuickTime VR Authoring Suite, were first released along with QuickTime VR 1.0 in July 1995.[1][2] QuickTime VR 1.1 and additional tools were previewed at the 1996 Worldwide Developers Conference in May 1996.[3]

QuickTime VR Authoring Studio 1.0 was released to the public on November 6, 1997 with the following:[4]

An updater to version 1.0.1 was released on October 28, 1998 to address some issues in the original version.[5]

Alternatives

With the discontinuation of QuickTime VR, alternate authoring tools for VR panoramas and objects are available from Easypano, which supports Adobe Flash (which has since itself been discontinued) and HTML5.[6] Other alternatives include Pano2VR and Object2VR.[7]
