RasterOps was a manufacturer of monitors and graphics cards for early Macintosh systems from Apple Computer. The company acquired Truevision in 1992 and renamed itself Truevision, Inc.[1]
History
RasterOps Corporation was established in California on June 3, 1987.[2] It was the first 3rd-party developer to produce video cards with software capable of displaying 24-bit color from Macintosh computers through its ColorBoard series of products.[3][4][5] RasterOps worked closely with Apple in 1988, prior to the development of Apple's own 32-Bit QuickDraw.[6]
Mergers and acquisitions
Truevision was based in Indianapolis, Indiana and developed digital video processing add-on boards for PC computers. It was founded by Cathleen Asch, Carl Calabria, Joseph Haaf, Bryan Hunt, Brad Pillow, Joe Shepard and Jeff Walters and others when AT&T split off their Electronic Photography and Imaging Center (EPICenter) in 1987. EPICenter was founded by Alan Wlasuk, Carl Calabria, Bryan Hunt, Brad Pillow, Joe Shepard and Jeff Walters.
When Truevision was acquired by RasterOps of Santa Clara, California, RasterOps took on the Truevision name and retained the Indianapolis engineering team which continued producing ever more advanced products until 1999, when the company was finally acquired by its biggest competitor, Pinnacle Systems. In August 2005, Pinnacle Systems was acquired by Avid Technology, who initially used the AT-Vista when they were a two-person startup company. Avid subsequently sold Pinnacle products to Corel Corporation in July 2012.[7]
