A Shutdown Items folder was introduced to the classic System Folder of System 7.5 in September 1994. It was a somewhat belated response to the existence of the Startup Items folder.
Usage
As the name suggests, any items in this folder would be launched by the Mac automatically upon Shut Down. (This would only be the case if the system underwent a normal shutdown procedure from the Special menu, instead of the power simply being cut off.)
A "farewell sound" or a copy of a backup utility could be placed, to make use of the Shutdown Items folder.
