macOS Tahoe 26 is the twenty-second major release of macOS, developed by Apple Inc. macOS Tahoe was announced by senior VP of software engineering Craig Federighi on June 9th at the 2025 Worldwide Developers Conference. It is named after the lake in the Sierra Nevada mountain range and was released on September 15, 2025.[1][2] It is also the last version of macOS to support Intel-based Macs.
Version numbering
There is no macOS 16 through 25. In June 2025, Apple revised the various version numbers of its new SDK and operating systems to unify them under "26", instituting an easier-to-remember major version number reflecting the subsequent year for future releases.[3]
New features
The new features of macOS Tahoe 26 include:
- New Liquid Glass user interface
- Updated Apple Intelligence features (for Apple Silicon only)
