Google LLC, based in Mountain View, California, is the developer and publisher of Android and Chrome OS, popular mobile and desktop operating systems based on Linux. Its competitors include Apple's iPadOS, iOS and macOS; and Microsoft's Windows.[1] Google's self-titled search engine is a competitor to Microsoft Bing, which also powers the majority of Yahoo! searches.[2]
History
Google was founded in September 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were Ph.D. students at Stanford University in California. In 2015, the company was reorganized into a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc.[3]
