Object Capture is an API introduced in iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS 12 (Monterey) that uses photogrammetry with machine learning to turn a series of pictures taken on a supported iPhone or iPad into 3D models that can be viewed in augmented reality. It is part of the RealityKit 2 framework from Apple Inc.
3rd-party software
The first 3rd-party application to support Object Capture for macOS is PhotoCatch, which was released in June 2021. It can convert about 30 images into a USDZ file and requires an Intel Mac with at least 16 GB of RAM and an AMD GPU with at least 4 GB of VRAM, or any Mac with an Apple M1 or later Apple processor.[1]
