Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is a W3C standard for vector graphics, based on XML.[1]

Support by Apple

Though Preview is unable to display SVG files, support is internally provided by CoreSVG to allow WebKit-based applications, such as Safari, to natively display SVG files and animations in macOS, iOS, and iPadOS.[2]
