WebKit is an open source browser engine managed by Apple with a consortium of developers. It is used in Safari for macOS and iPadOS, and in all web browsers for iOS. It is also implemented, though not directly accessible, in watchOS 5 and later.[1]

Development
WebKit was derived from KHTML browser layout engine and the KJS JavaScript libraries originally developed by KDE.[2] Participating developers in WebKit included Adobe, Apple, Blackberry, Google, Intel, and Nokia.[3] In 2013, Google forked its work on WebKit into its own open source browser engine called Blink for use in its Chrome browser.[4]
